Bone Density
Bone densitometry, also called DEXA, uses a very small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body (usually the lower spine and hips) to measure bone loss. It is commonly used to diagnose osteoporosis, to assess an individual's risk for developing osteoporotic fractures. A bone density exam is simple, quick and noninvasive. It's also the most standard method for diagnosing osteoporosis.
The screening typically takes as little as 15 minutes.
Do not take calcium supplements or vitamins 24 hours before your screening. There is the potential for calcium that isn’t completely dissolved to affect the scan results.
*Bone densitometry is available only at the Rogers location.
